There's been a lot of chat recently about one of our predicted 2024 wedding trends: the rise of wedding content creators. You may have already seen this new 'brand' of wedding media on Instagram and Tik Tok or perhaps you're reading this and wondering what on God's Earth we're talking about.
To help lift the lid on this relatively new category of wedding vendors, we reached out to writer and newlywed Sophie Jay Nelson to give us the 411.
Late 2023, the viral (and wildly expensive!!) wedding of Madelaine Brockway flooded everyone’s FYP with clips from the lavish $89M wedding (yes, you read that right) that spanned five days. The viral content we were seeing was candid, fun and we felt like we were getting a glimpse behind the scenes, I was hooked!
Well guess what? That content was shot by Australian wedding content creator; Olivia Burrows Sutherland who has been leading the way in luxe wedding content creation.
Newlywed and Wedshed graduate Elizabeth also used a wedding content creator for her October 2023 wedding and said, "It was one of the best things we did!
I first heard about it on Tiktok, I thought it was a great idea honestly. The content creator we used was amazing and she fit right in! She worked together with the photographer to capture awesome shots! Our package was photos, the raw video footage and then 2 x reels of our choosing. Everything was given to us via Dropbox the next day."
Here’s what you can expect from the new wedding vendors:
What is a wedding content creator?
They are hired similarly to a wedding photographer or videographer but they will be filming on an iPhone and the style of video they create is more suited to social media. Think behind-the-scenes, candid, close-ups, personal and less formal footage.
They can either work alongside your videographer/photographer and add to your media team, or completely on their own. They often have experience in content creation and/or social media.
What kind of packages are available?
Packages usually start with one complete edited video that can be uploaded directly to Tiktok or Instagram Reels plus any raw unedited footage they took. Some wedding content creators can even help you create Tiktok trends, transitions or skits.
The content is often delivered to the newlyweds within 24 hours - this short turn around time can be a big draw card for most!
How much are they?
Packages can start at around $500-$700. But like most vendors, it will vary depending on how many hours you require, distance to your wedding and how much content you want to receive.
What's the difference between a content creator and a videographer?
Comparatively (but not always), a professional wedding videographer or photographer is likely going to have qualifications or technical training in their field, high-end equipment and as the profession has been around a lot longer, they’ll likely have more experience in capturing weddings. Hence why you will pay a higher fee for the quality of their work and the timings to receive your content can take a few months for them to finesse.
A wedding content creator will likely have a background in content creation or social media so will know how to create content that is more directly suited for social platforms. The delivery of your content can be a much quicker turnaround (24 hours in some cases) as everything is created on their phone.
Other considerations.
I can definitely understand the appeal of hiring someone to capture your wedding in a more candid and non-intrusive approach; especially when this means your bridal party won’t need to be filming anything on their phones and they can be more present. It’s like you’ve given your phone to your (talented) bestie for the day and they are discreetly capturing all the heartwarming moments for you.
As these vendors are relatively new on the scene, it is important to be thorough when finding one that has sufficient wedding or event experience. To curb any disappointment when booking a wedding content creator, always make sure you ask to see examples of their work, and read through reviews to make sure they have experience and they align with your expectations.
Conclusion.
If you’re looking for content that feels a little bit more candid, personal and authentic - you know, those laughing-in-between moments on the day that usually go unnoticed, then maybe a wedding content creator might be what you’re looking for!
