For Sophie and Charlie, it made sense to get married at Terrara House – a spectacular mansion on the NSW south coast. As Sophie explains, “Charlie grew up on a farm and I have always lived by the ocean… When we went to Terrara House and realised the tagline is ‘where the land meets the sea’ we knew it was the one for us.”
Their ceremony took place in the Love Garden, with guests later enjoying an incredible shared feast inside a romantically lit, clear marquee.

First, could you tell us about how you met, any funny first date stories and a bit about the proposal?
We met on Bumble and it took us about four weeks to find a time to go on our first date. We finally had a date locked in and I got held up at work and tried to cancel. Thankfully he waited, and although I was an hour and a half late (sorry Charlie), we hit it off immediately and the rest is history.
We were in Noosa on a holiday and he surprised me with a proposal as we walked along the beach to dinner one night.
Why did you choose to have your wedding at Terrara House?
Charlie grew up on a farm and I have always lived by the ocean, so we were looking for a farm or property with ocean views but nothing we found was quite right. When we went to Terrara House and realised the tagline is ‘where the land meets the sea’ we knew it was the one for us.
In a few sentences, how would you describe your wedding day? Was there a particular vibe or theme you went for?
We didn’t have a specific theme, but we worked with a stylist, Belinda, from The Curated Life to bring the venue to life with elegant florals and soft white furnishings.
What was your favourite part of your ceremony?
That first moment when I stepped out and saw Charlie’s face.
What did you love about your reception?
We opted for the clear marquee from White Top venues, which was one the best decisions we made. Terrara House is such a stunning venue, and having the clear walls allowed all the guests to be immersed in the space.
At night we had thousands of fairy lights along the ceiling which looked incredible.
What was your favourite location in Terrara House and The Estate and why?
Our ceremony was held in the Love Garden which is a hedge maze, carved in the shape of love hearts and framed with enormous hedge walls. It created the most intimate ceremony space and even though we had over 100 guests, it felt like you could hear a pin drop.
Did you plan a post wedding ‘honeymoon’ celebration and if so what experience did you plan?
We were booked to spend summer in Italy but sadly that has been put on hold due to COVID. We were lucky to spend a few days on the South Coast for a ‘mini moon’ at Bannister’s by the Sea in Mollymook. We are looking forward to rescheduling our honeymoon when all of this is over.
What is your advice for any future couples planning their wedding?
Start by deciding on a venue. The rest of your decisions will flow off the back of that.
