Selma sums up the vibe of their VIC barn wedding perfectly when she tells us, “We wanted things to be less about formalities and more about the party so we opted for a shorter ceremony, didn’t do the whole bridal entrance and no cake. Instead we mingled among our guests and had roaming desserts which left more time for dancing!”
Held at Wedshed venue The Burrow, it sounds like the perfect wedding scenario to us. Captured by Tess Follett, you can see the full shebang below.

How did you and Collis meet? We first met in Falls Creek in Victoria many, many years ago while we were both up there for a running training camp, as we were elite athletes at the time. I first noticed his sense of humour and good looks… and he noticed my eyes and smile. I got his number off a friend and from there we just stayed in touch till a few years passed by and we decided to give things a go.
The proposal: It was perfectly understated. We had just been out to dinner celebrating as we had just officially bought a house that day. Got home, took all my makeup off and got into my pyjamas when he got on one knee in the kitchen and popped the question. It was very much a surprise.
Wedding venue: I always thought about something out in nature and had seen The Burrow pop up in my Instagram feed years before we got engaged. I made a mental note of it and when we finally did get engaged, it was the first and only venue we saw. We both fell in love with it and its natural beauty with the gorgeous Australian bush setting and the contemporary barn style venue.
Wedding vibe: We were going for a formal, romantic and modern look in a rustic setting. I loved the idea of this contrast and seeing it come to life as perfectly as it did was incredible.
Traditions: adopted, adapted or ditched? We wanted things to be less about formalities and more about the party so we opted for a shorter ceremony, didn’t do the whole bridal entrance and no cake. Instead we mingled among our guests and had roaming desserts which left more time for dancing!
The outfit/s: I wasn’t really sure what I wanted in a wedding dress but knew I wanted something a bit different and modern. I ended up going with a gorgeous Chosen by Kyha gown which I couldn’t stop thinking about months after trying it on. I loved its simplicity, yet amazing detail in the modern lace which I simply fell in love with. It fit like a glove and made me feel amazing.
For Collis, we wanted something classic and so couldn’t go past a black tux from M.J. Bale. All the boys looked amazing in their matching black suits and bow ties.
Standout vendors: Tess Follett, our amazing photographer. She made us and our bridal party feel so at ease and captured all the happy moments from the day in such a gorgeous way. She’s just brilliant.
The amazing Flowerqueen, Holly Spence. She bought all my floral dreams to life and more. I still swoon over the pop of red in our floral arrangements which just came through so nicely on the day. Holly was a gem to work with and went above and beyond for us on the day. Cannot recommend her enough.
And finally our wonderful celebrant Georgia Mills, who set the tone for the whole day in the most beautiful and light hearted way. It was perfectly us and not too serious!
Soundtrack: Aisle: “Sea of Love” – Cat Power. Recessional: “Real Love Baby” – Father John Misty. First dance: “Harvest Moon” – Neil Young. Party Starter: “Twist and Shout” – The Beatles.
Words of wedding wisdom: Stop comparing your real wedding to a Pinterest wedding! You can get so hung up on all these small extras that nobody will actually notice on the day.
I’ll always remember… I’ll always remember dancing the night away with my loves, something that I had been hanging out for the most!
Hit or (near) miss: It was oddly just a really perfect day. From the weather, to all the little details everything that we know of went smoothly and even if it didn’t we probably wouldn’t have noticed! We were just so happy to finally be having our day after a postponement and all the stress in the lead up, nothing else mattered.
The future: We’re just looking forward to continuing to share all of life’s big moments together.
