Who doesn’t love a girl’s weekend away? Throw a special occasion on top of it like a hen’s party and the fun vibes go up exponentially. So it’s been a great pleasure to scour Airbnb on your behalf (truly, if we could make perving on properties a fulltime job we would) to gather a collection of stand-out NSW properties sleeping a minimum of eight guests that are ripe for a ladies night or two. We’re already excited for you.
A showstopping custom-built shed, Gerroa NSW
Not only is The Shed Gerroa a jaw-dropping place to stay (think an architect-designed shed that looks out over lush green hills down to the ocean, it comes with it’s own hen’s itinerary if you’re interested. A collection of local businesses offer a ‘Rejuvacation’ wellness retreat that we’ve had the pleasure of experiencing and it is heaven. Think pilates under a giant fig tree, nourishing food, a fermentation workshop, and pampering of your choice from a massage, facial or acupuncture. Sure beats a penis straw and bar crawl.
A designer rural escape, Mudgee NSW
We can see it already: you and the girls floating on inflatable swans and swimming in the river. Cooking up a feast in the country kitchen. Sipping red wine and dancing until late around a starlit campfire. River Ranch Mudgee is an oasis in one of our fave wine regions in the country. It’s a no-brainer for an intimate hen’s (and just a scenic 3.5 hours from Sydney).
A minimalist property overlooking the water, Smiths Lake NSW
Nestled among the trees, this contemporary house boasts one of the better timber decks we’ve ever seen. There’s an inbuilt fire pit and plenty of space to kick back, relax and enjoy water views. Plus you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to fun day activities, given the proximity to beautiful Smiths Lake and Celito Beach – think SUP, kayaking, house-boat hire, sunset picnics and more.
The most luxe Spanish-inspired hacienda, Byron Region NSW
If you’re looking to splash out (hey, Vegas is off the cards right now), you can’t look much further than this insanely beautiful property. Set on 120 acres with panoramic views out to the ocean, the homestead is the kind of rustic sophistication you’d make your screensaver. Think a Spanish-inspired home filled with handcrafted artisan furnishings and a glorious sun-soaked pool. The saying ‘you’ll never want to leave’ is overdone, but seriously.
A contemporary cottage looking out to an escarpment, Kangaroo Valley NSW
Here’s the thing. Barranca at Kangaroo Valley has not one but two beautiful cottages (well, technically there’s four but there’s two that sleep eight if you’re gathering a crew) – both with the most jaw-dropping view across farm and bush out to the impressive rocky escarpment that you’ll see if you Google the region. So really, you’re spoilt for choice. We’d be sipping bubbles on the deck as a pink sunset glows off the rocks and then taking the good times to the fire pit.
A farmhouse with a pool and a view, Hunter Valley NSW
Set on its own private vineyard in the Hunter Valley’s beautiful Broke, this property enjoys 180 degree sweeping views over vines and across the panoramic Brokenback Range. You can savour these from the comfortable open-plan living quarters or atop of a floatation device in the 10m private pool. Your choice.
A French-inspired Chateau in a wine region, Hunter Valley NSW
You’ll truly feel like you’ve been transported across the seas and landed in a European dream at this property. A French Provincial-style farmhouse overlooks a vineyard and as an added bonus, is just minutes away from some fantastic cellar doors. If you ever wanted an excuse for a theme for a hen’s party, this is it: bonjour, French stripes and cute berets. BYO baguette.
A pool house that’s walking distance to town and beach, Byron Bay NSW
We’re suckers for an entertainers pool and this hit the mark for us. We can feel the relaxed, comfortable vibes just from photos alone. The fact that you can wander to the beach and the heart of Byron’s bustling town gives it the ultimate hen’s tick of approval.
A stylish acreage in heart of a wine region, Mudgee NSW
Like the rest of these places, if we could move in we would. This property spans 20 acres, is close to town and wineries and can sleep 16 across two dwellings. There’s a great pool and adjacent outdoor seated area and a full country kitchen where you can whip up a meal or a cocktail together.
A South Coast abode across from the beach, Currarong NSW
Wake up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach and make yourself a coffee or espresso martini to enjoy on the deck. It’s the way we’d be starting our day and the good times are guaranteed to continue at this architect-designed house, situated directly opposite from the beach. We’re very much here for the combustion fire, the open plan living and huge outdoor table – perfect for a game or two.
The ultimate pool house overlooking countryside, Berry NSW
Yes, the interiors here are beautiful but you’ll be spending most of your time outdoors. The deck is huge, the pool is crystal clear and the views out across the rolling hills of the south coast are breathtaking. We’re pretty sure we spotted a firepit too. The cherry on top is that you’re a stone’s throw from the charming town of Berry where there’s plenty of good eating and drinking to enjoy.
