Georgie and Joel chose Kimo Estate as the backdrop for their wedding, which features a 150-year-old homestead, 7 acres of gardens and lush green rolling hills. Not to mention, the beautiful 115-year-old Grain Shed which has a grand cathedral ceiling and stunning outlook over Kimo Estate’s 7000 acres of breathtaking scenery.
Check out their celebration below, captured by WedShed favourite, Michael Briggs.
Tell us about how you met and the proposal?
Met the old fashioned way, at a party through mutual friends, and he proposed on the top of a mountain in the snowy mountains only 12 weeks before the wedding.
What DIY projects did you do accomplish for the wedding?
Very minimal! We only really put a small bunch of flowers on the tables, as we like to save our DIY for home improvements.
What was your theme/inspiration/vibe for your wedding?
A relaxed fun country wedding, (no muss, no fuss).
Were there any wedding traditions you felt were important to you to include in your wedding? And any that you put a twist on for yourselves?
Writing our own vows and making sure the wedding was personal to us.
What advice would you give to other couples leading up to their big day?
At the end of the day, all the other stuff doesn’t matter. All you remember is all the love and joy that surrounded you.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage means getting to spend the rest of your life with the person that makes you the happiest and getting to make that person happy.
What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?
Everything about the ceremony. Seeing each other for the first time walking down the aisle. Saying our vows. Looking out and seeing all our family and friends sharing in the day. Everyone commented after, that they had never seen two people smile so big.
Tell us any funny stories that surrounded your wedding?
Joel is one of the friendliest people in the world so it meant an extensive guest list, not being able to narrow down his friends to just two groomsmen, to match the 2 bridesmaids, he ended up with 7 groomsmen and he spoke for over 45 mins (almost a record according to our photographer) by itemising everyone at the wedding and why he loved them.
How did you find your venue and was the process difficult for you?
WedShed definitely made the process easier for us. Having such a short time period narrowed down the selection to what was available and Joel’s one criteria was having a big old barn or shed so we only ended up looking at two venues and it was no contest after we saw Kimo.
Ceremony song?
‘Till there was you’ by the Beatles.
First dance song?
‘Digital Love’ by Daft Punk.
