We’re long-time fans of small, intimate weddings and Bri and Dave’s Byron Bay wedding was no exception. Held at Byron View Farm and captured by Figtree Wedding Photography their vision was, in Bri’s words, to create a “summer garden party” with the main focus on bringing “two families together in an amazing destination, and having some fabulous food, wine and cocktails.” Sounds like our kind of celebration.
Check out their beautiful day (and Bri’s gorgeous gown and flowers) below.
Congrats on getting married. First, could you tell us about how you met, any funny first date stories and a bit about the proposal?
We met in our second year at uni in an astronomy class called The Search for Life in the Universe. While we didn’t find any extraterrestrial life out there, you could say the stars aligned and we found each other! We’ve now been together for almost a decade.
In a few sentences, how would you describe your wedding day? Was there a particular vibe or theme you went for?
Our wedding day was a dream! We had an intimate wedding at the magical Byron View Farm, with family visiting from our home country Canada. The vibe on the day was relaxed and happy with a summer garden party style.
Did you write your own vows? If so, what made you do that and did you use anything in particular for inspiration, for example, love quotes?
Yes, we wrote our own vows and shared them with each other a couple days before the wedding. It was special to read them to each other without an audience and it helped with the nerves on the big day. We don’t take ourselves too seriously so there were lots of jokes and laughs throughout.
What’s the best piece of advice you took on when planning your wedding?
We took the advice to plan a wedding that stayed true to us and how we wanted to celebrate getting married. We kept things small, simple and stress-free, with the main focus on bringing our two families together in an amazing destination, and having some fabulous food, wine and cocktails.
Did you scrap any wedding traditions? If so, what?
We skipped the wedding cake and let Fig Tree Restaurant do their thing. We had the most heavenly vegan brownies and sticky date pudding.
Finish this sentence. The best (or most unique) thing we did at our wedding was…
Espresso martinis on the dance floor!
