Bianca and Uyi are two cool cats, and the kind of couple others only envy (in a good way). We know this because they entered their Sydney wedding reception doing a choreographed afrobeats dance and continued to dominate the DF throughout the evening (see pics below). Bianca also side-stepped tradition and rocked a white wedding suit by Lillian Khallouf.
It’s one celebration we really wish we’d be invited to (we’re partial to a good boogie, plus the food looked amazing). Check out their entire celebration captured by Gez Xavier Mansfield Photography here.
Congrats on getting married. First, could you tell us about how you met, any funny first date stories and a bit about the proposal?
We met on Tinder. Our first date was at the Roosevelt Hotel in Potts Point. Bianca didn’t want to have to travel more than 300 metres from her apartment for a Tinder date after a number of bad experiences. Uyi proposed after a Saturday morning gym session while Bianca was eating a sausage on bread from a sausage sizzle.
In a few sentences, how would you describe your wedding day? Was there a particular vibe or theme you went for?
Our wedding day was the best day of our lives. We had a big party surrounded by our family and friends from across the world – vibrant, fun and full of love.
Did you write your own vows?
We didn’t write our own vows as we had a church wedding but we both gave speeches at the reception.
What’s the best piece of advice you took on when planning your wedding?
A good photographer is important as the day flies by so quickly. Now we have a beautiful visual reminder of our memories.
What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started planning?
Go with what feels right to you because you can’t keep everyone happy.
Now that you’re married, what’s the best piece of advice you can give other couples?
Listen to your wife.
Finish this sentence. The best (or most unique) thing we did at our wedding was…
Uyi’s friends danced into the reception wearing Nigerian agbada, followed by us with a choreographed afrobeats dance.
