Just by looking at this couple, you can tell they are all about the laid-back chilled vibe. Their day was full of fun, plenty of colour, amazing Mexican inspired food, epic live music from some Melbourne locals (organised by her brother), and endless dancing. A wedding that sounds right up our alley.
Sarah and Cody said their I-do’s at award-winning olive grove and wagu farm, Rusty Gate Estate. This VIC wedding venue features beautiful views, grand gardens and multiple places onsite for your ceremony.

Hey Sarah and Cody. What did you expect was going to be your favourite part in the lead-up? What did it end up being?
Our day was exactly how we imagined, with all of our favourite people in one place. Our live band created the most electric atmosphere. We had an elevated stage, a sound guy and the best session musicians from around Melbourne playing outdoors under festoon lights. My brother orchestrated it all as his wedding present to us and it was the most amazing gift. The atmosphere created by the live music was epic, and it meant that everyone spent the night on the dance floor. Oh the other favourite… the icecream van!
Did you write your own vows? If so, what made you decide to do that?
We used traditional vows and adapted them slightly. As vows are your promises to each other we wanted them to be true to us.
What was it about your wedding venue that made you book?
We have holidayed in Barwon heads for many years and have always known we wanted to get married in the area. When we came across Rusty Gate Estate, we knew straight away it was where we wanted to get married. Open paddocks, Olive groves, pine trees, water views and a private beach – what more could we want? It was a beautiful blank canvas that allowed us to make our day our own.
What’s your best piece of wedding-related advice?
Enjoy every moment, not just on the day but also in the lead up to the wedding. Enjoy the planning and all the special moments along the way and remember it’s your wedding, do it your way and make sure it is an expression of you as a couple.
If you had your time again, is there anything you’d do differently?
Absolutely nothing.
Finish these sentences…
The best thing we did at our wedding was… have photos before the ceremony. It meant we had an opportunity to have some time to ourselves and that was one of the most special parts of the day.
We splurged on… nothing really. Our biggest expense was photography/videography but this was one of the most important things for us as it gave us photos/video that we can treasure and look back on forever.
We saved on food… food trucks were the best decision we made. The food was delicious and endless and all the guests loved it! We also saved on cars, we just used our own Jeep Wrangler and a friends Kombi van.
