It’s hard to say what we love more about this lush marquee VIC wedding: that Melissa and her maids wore sneakers or that Charles’s 97-year-old Nanna was one of the last guests to leave the dance floor. Either way, it was a very special day made even more memorable by the fact it took place on Charles’s family property in North East Victoria.
“Having our wedding on my husband’s parents’ property in Stanley, Victoria, surrounded by nature (a snake literally slithered through the scene a few minutes before I walked down the aisle) helped set the vibe of the day”, says Melissa who used Forethought by Samantha to plan, co-ordinate and style their entire celebration.

Congrats on getting married. First, could you tell us about how you met, any funny first date stories and a bit about the proposal?
We met on Tinder (where else!?). Our first date was a combination of some of my favourite places in Melbourne, beginning at Cumulus Up and ending much later at Siglo.
Around two years later, Charles proposed on our daily morning walk to Princess Pier, at about 6am on a freezing June morning, so I was caught completely by surprise.
In a few sentences, how would you describe your wedding?
We wanted our wedding to be a fun and relaxed celebration of love with our family and friends. Having our wedding on my husband’s parents’ property in Stanley, Victoria, surrounded by nature (a snake literally slithered through the scene a few minutes before I walked down the aisle) helped set the vibe of the day.
Did you write your own vows?
Yes, we wrote our own vows so they felt more like us, and both, unknowingly, brought them back to our shared values.
What’s the best piece of advice you took on when planning your wedding?
Get yourself a wedding planner! Sam from Forethought by Samantha’s attention to detail and care made our day an absolute dream and meant we could focus on celebrating with everyone.
What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started planning?
We had a pretty good idea of how we wanted our day to feel, so for us, just having the help of our planner to coordinate suppliers and the setup and running of the day was a game-changer. There’s no way we could have done it on a private property without Sam.

Now that you’re married, what’s the best piece of advice you can give other couples in the middle of planning their own weddings?
Life moves fast, have fun and keep doing the things you love.
Were there any traditions you did not partake in or any specific to your family or religion that were special to you?
My bridesmaids and I wore sneakers – comfort is everything!
Finish this sentence. The best (or most unique) thing we did at our wedding was…
The best thing was just seeing all of our favourite people there to help celebrate with us. It’s an overwhelming and special feeling being surrounded by so much love. The dance floor under the stars was epic, and seeing Charles’s 97-year-old Nanna on the dance floor late into the night was incredibly special.
