Held at Wallalong House – a pretty special Hunter Valley farm wedding venue – Mel and Matt’s wedding was simple and sophisticated.
“We liked the idea of a big house that we could have friends and family stay in and kind of drag out the wedding celebrations to include the weekend. So it was easy when we came upon Wallalong house”, says Mel. The property’s panoramic country views, in-ground pool and luxury marquee were just the icing on the cake.

What DIY projects did you do accomplish for the wedding?
I love a little DIY. We had a nine-month engagement so I tried to restrict myself. I did the stationery, including the invitations and website for everyone to RSVP to. I made the shawls that the bridesmaids received as their gift.
What sort of vibe were you aiming to create?
We wanted a relaxed, fun but elegant event. We loved the idea of having all the people we loved in one place for us.
What traditions did you involve during your big day?
Matt’s grandmother passed away a few years ago and gave his mother a ring, I wore it as my ‘something old’ and ‘something borrowed’.
What advice would you give to other couples leading up to their big day?
Enjoy the process of planning the biggest party! Make lots of lists and tick lots of boxes as you go. Make sure on the day that you enjoy it because no matter what happens or what goes wrong or whatever unexpected thing comes your way, it will be the best day ever so don’t sweat the little things!
What does marriage mean to you?
For us, it was a time to bring our families and friends together and celebrate our relationship!
What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?
There were so many moments that I wish I could relive but I think the moment I walked down the aisle to Matt, I felt the nerves disappear and I remember feeling so at ease and happy! It’s a moment we will both never forget.
Tell us any funny stories that surrounded your wedding?
My credit card got cancelled twice during the process of getting the wedding paid for just because of the “unusual amount of credit activity”.
Ceremony song? The Luckiest – Ben Folds.
First dance song? Bonfire Heart – James Blunt (our engagement song!).
