We’ve seen a lot of weddings in our time and we’re pretty fond of this one. Held at Cedar Bar and Kitchen – a converted, century old church just outside Coffs Harbour – the floral chandeliers were seriously next level. And we could never fault a white and green colour scheme. Ever.

We chatted to newlyweds Kate and Scott about the lead up to their wedding and what it was that set their day apart.

Tell us about how you met and the proposal?

We met at high school and were always great friends. After years of friendship and school, we worked out that we had something pretty special. We lived together in Sydney and then moved to London to share some great memories together. It was in London that Scott proposed in Regents Park just before we were about to set sail on a three month European summer holiday. It was perfect!

What DIY projects did you do accomplish for the wedding?

We were very lucky to have some creative people on board and so we didn’t really need to get our hands too dirty with DIY! Kiri from Rosie Pose, Jessie from Freesia Kahlo, Kirsty Treadwell and my mum Julie lent a hand and their creative spirits in putting together all sorts of DIY projects from incredible hanging floral arrangements to painting our wishing well.

What sort of vibe were you aiming to create?

We wanted something contemporary with lots of greenery and organic touches. We are both relaxed people and wanted that to be reflected at our wedding.

What traditions did you involve during your big day?

We had a formal church wedding which involved many catholic traditions. Once the reception started, we were much more relaxed. We had some beautiful and entertaining speeches, followed by our first dance and then a farewell guard of honour. This was a highlight because we left on such a high with everyone cheering us on into married life!

What advice would you give to other couples leading up to their big day?

Delegate! “Is there anything we can do to help?” was asked so many times in the lead up to the big day. Make sure that you delegate as much as possible. People love to be a part of the lead up and want to help so make sure you allow them to do so!

Confirm all vendors in the lead up and keep tabs or a journal. It will be great to look back on it all one day.

What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?

Kate – The photos were pretty special! We went to one location in the Promised Land and it was so beautiful. Scott and I spent a fair chunk of time together, just the two of us (oh, and Scott our photographer) during the shoot. It was nice to take a moment to take everything in together.

Scott – Having everyone on the dance floor for the majority of the night was great! Everyone including Kate and I had a ball! To top it off, our MC organised a guard of honour to farewell us.

Tell us any funny stories that surrounded your wedding?

The speeches were great! Both families share a love of horse racing and this was evident in the speeches with some funny stories and even a poem written by Kate’s Dad, Greg, titled ‘Tie the Knot Stakes’ that was hilarious.

Another great moment was when Nanny, Kate’s Grandmother had a dance and was ambushed by all her grandchildren wanting to take her for a spin!

How did you find your venue and was the process difficult for you?

The process was so great! We fell in love with Cedar and they couldn’t have been more accommodating! We felt like they wanted to make it really special for us and it was!

Ceremony song?

A Thousand Years – Celia Pavey.

First dance song?

Bob Marley – Is This Love.

What To Do If You’re Second-Guessing Your Wedding Dress

We love pizza but if we were to eat it everyday, the infatuation we have for this classic culinary delight would fade pretty fast. It’s the same with wedding dresses – you look at the same garment every day for months and it eventually becomes less palatable. If you’re second-guessing your wedding dress, you must read this.
