This is a goodie.
When we first stumbled upon Avalon Sailing Club we were kind of shocked at how it had remained under the radar for so long. We’ve grown up in Sydney (and Amy even lives on the northern beaches), yet we’d never come across this charmer of a venue.
Adelaide and Cameron also enlisted the help of a couple of our favourite vendors. The day was captured beautifully by the team at Studio Something (that afternoon light…) and the lovely Victoria Eustace of All We Need Is Love led a joy-filled ceremony.
We got some of the details from Adelaide.
Tell us about the proposal.
He popped the question whilst admiring the view at the MONA museum in Hobart – Cameron disguised the ring amongst a stash of butterscotch candy in his pocket.
How much DIY did you guys take on?
Pretty much everything was a DIY project… everything from the bar to the hundreds of bottles and cans collected for the flowers.
What was your inspiration for the wedding?
We wanted a very relaxed wedding, just a big summer BBQ with all of the people we love. The theme of the wedding revolved around creating that vibe.
What traditions did you embrace?
Just the usual tradition of an embarrassing dad speech which involved a unique rendition of a Van Morrison classic.
What advice would you give couples leading up to their big day?
Enlist as much help as possible – our wedding was wonderful thanks to all our family and friends that chipped in along the way.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage to us is a beautiful ritual which celebrates your love for one another forever. A coming together of friends and family and just a lovely acknowledgement that you’re in this crazy journey together.
What was your favourite part of the day?
Our favourite part of the day was the ceremony. It was perfect – reading our personal vows to each other was really special. It was a moment and memory of just pure happiness.
Any funny moments on the day or in the lead up?
Convincing my brother that as my bridesmaid he must wear a dress was an endless source of entertainment.
