It’s that one time in your life (other than the wedding, of course) that you’re absolutely allowed to spoil yourself uncontrollably, and who better to do it with the person you just said your I-do’s with.
Whether you’re after something local or abroad, we’ve pulled a handful of our favourite honeymoon destinations which will leave you picking your jaw off the floor. Some of these options might even suit for a mini-moon while you stash some cash for the more extravagant honeymoon later down the track. A trend we’ve noticed that’s picked up a lot lately with newlyweds.
Below you’ll find a bunch of jaw-droppingly gorgeous luxe getaways that are ideal for a honeymoon destination.
1. Paperbark Camp Glamping
Location: Jervis Bay, South Coast NSW
Disclaimer: we’ve stayed here. And yes, it’s out of this world. We’re big fans of what these guys do, and what would be more luxe than glamping in a peaceful bush setting, just minutes away from beautiful Jervis Bay? Plus, they host weddings too. So you can stick around post celebrating and soak up some relaxation while dining at their delicious Gunyah treetop restaurant.
2. Villa Vedas
Location: Tanah Lot, Bali, Indonesia
There was no way we could get through this list without a private beachfront Bali villa. This beautiful Bali villa has spared no expense when it comes to luxury. It’s not only fully staffed with a personal villa manager, but it also has two pools and its very own private 45-metre beach frontage. Heck yes.
3. Kimo Estate’s Eco Huts
Location: Gundagai, NSW, Australia
These guys truly nailed the brief on creating the perfect romantic spot for a wedding night or honeymoon. Plus, we totally think plunge pools are the new cronuts, which Kimo Estate has recently dipped their toes into lately. We definitely recommend checking out this VIC honeymoon destination, featuring 7,000 acres of lush greenery.
4. The Ungasan
Location: Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia
We’re not sure if it gets much better than this when it comes to luxury venues and unbelievable views. This clifftop resort is the stuff of dreams. Plus, another reason we’re in love with this beautiful Bali spot, is the all-inclusive honeymoon packages they offer. Think rose petal bath, sparkling on arrival, VIP access to the beach club and massages.
5. Wild Coast Tented Lodge
Location: Yala, Sri Lanka
This is the type of joint that will give you goosebumps on arrival. Adjacent to Yala National Park, they’re known for their leopard population and spectacular luxury camping, overlooking the Indian Ocean. If that hasn’t sold you already, take a quick look at their beautiful huts, that take on the shape and colour of the rocks and boulders nearby. Think sundowner cocktails, picnics on the sand dunes and views for days.
6. Southern Ocean Lodge
Location: Kangaroo Island, SA, Australia
Perched on a cliff overlooking the rugged Southern Ocean, you only have to look at these pics to know it’s something special. It’s got everything you’d expect – the gastronomic experiences, the guided day trips, the spa, but to be honest, we’d be happy just hanging out watching the weather whip by from the comfort of your own suite. Plus, would you look at that bath?
7. Azulik
Location: Tulum, Mexico
Nestled in between the Caribbean Sea and the jungle of Tulum, you’ll find this beautiful eco-friendly villa, Azulik. The resort has been built to allow trees to grow freely and be lit exclusively by candlelight, creating a natural ambience for a romantic honeymoon. Leave your shoes at the door and enjoy their spa and wellness center, beach club and three restaurants onsite.
8. Kakslauttanen Artic Resort
Location: Saariselkä, Finland
If you’re more keen on a cosy winter getaway, then boy do we have the place for you. Just north of the Artic Circle in Finnish Lapland, this beautiful honeymoon resort is known for their glass igloos, northern lights, and midnight sun. Talk about romantic, huh?
9. Own Villa
Location: Canggu, Bali, Indonesia
Own Villa features beautiful thatched roof huts set in landscaped gardens. Surrounded by rice fields, this resort is pretty astonishing and is built to mirror its natural environment with Sumatran-style architecture. Plus, it embraces nature and relaxation with onsite massages, candle-lit dinners, and service like no other.
10. Freedom Shores Australia
Location: Airlie Beach, QLD, Australia
If you love the idea of staying on a boat but don’t want to charter a mega-yacht, you’ll love these bungalows that have been designed to resemble fishing boats. Each room comes with a patio, locally-made bathroom amenities, nautical-themed artwork and of course, a killer view.
