At Spring Bay Mill, we break from the conventional—because your big day deserves more. Set on the beautiful east coast of lutruwita/Tasmania, surrounded by a regenerated industrial site brimming with native species, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all when it comes to love. Whether it’s a grand celebration, an intimate elopement, or something completely different, we’ll help you create a wedding that’s uniquely yours.
We offer more, with more meaning—nature’s raw beauty as your backdrop, a menu sourced from our land and sea, and ensuring your wedding gives back to the planet. From extras like ocean dips, tree planting and historic walks to a gin masterclass, a wedding at Spring Bay Mill isn’t just an event—it’s an experience that stays with you. Our in-house planner takes care of every detail, ensuring your day runs smoothly and your vision becomes reality.
Our indoor and outdoor spaces are anything but typical. Imagine getting married beside a jetslinger in our distinct Amphitheatre, or barefoot on the beach, followed by a reception in the rustic Tin Shed with stunning sea views. Stay in our award-winning, off-grid accommodation, complete with outdoor hot tubs and more breathtaking views. We can host up to 116 guests over 51 rooms, and if you need more, we’ll arrange nearby accommodation.
Photos don’t do this place justice. See it for yourself. Get in touch to organise a site visit, and we’ll help you plan a wedding that’s anything but ordinary. You deserve it.
Spring Bay Mill is surrounded by some of the cleanest air lutruwita/Tasmania has to offer with water views that stretch from the portside town of trayapana/Triabunna to wukaluwikiwayna/Maria Island National Park. Previously the world’s largest wood chip mill, the site purveys a transcendent stillness that is truly unmatched.
Garden-to-plate goodness, modern facilities, award-winning accommodation and an intricate landscape yield a backdrop like no other for weddings: intimate or spectacular.
From the wood chip mill workers who earned a living here for four decades before us to now, we’re passionate about caring for the unceded land of the paredarerme people, the original gatherers and caretakers of Freestone Point.
The Triabunna Wood Chip Mill was built in the 1970s. In its heyday, the mill exported up to 600,000 tons of wood chips per year. This meant around 100,000 healthy trees from ancient old growth forests in southern Tasmania were clear-felled every year.
Philanthropist, Graeme Wood purchased the Mill in 2011 with the intent of putting a stop to old-growth logging in southern Tasmania once and for all. The ongoing carbon sequestration of those saved forests has been a major contributor to the carbon-negative position that Tasmania can now rightfully boast.
The decision to create an events venue, by up-cycling the industrial infrastructure into state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor spaces, was made with the intention of returning the site to a place where people can gather again. And to demonstrate that through regenerating landscapes, we regenerate ourselves.
