In recent months, more than 11 million hectares have been affected by bushfire across Australia. That’s a land area close to the size of England. It’s been a devastating time for people in Victoria and beyond, including many of our wedding venues and vendors.
While it will inevitably take some time for the most badly fire affected regions in VIC to fully heal, there are plenty of ways your wedding can sustain local businesses that are still operating (and on a mission to make your day the best ever).
By inviting guests to travel to these parts of the country you’ll be encouraging money to be spent where it’s needed most. It’s not just the local wedding suppliers that benefit either – it’s the cafes, bars, farmers, grocers, wine-makers, Uber drivers and the wider community that feel the love too.
Below we’ve rounded up the hardest hit regions in VIC that would love your support.
Couples don’t come to Gippsland for just one thing – variety is its selling point with beautiful waterways, pristine beaches, cute cafes and charming tiny towns all on offer. Fresh produce is available year round and in the cooler months, parts of this region see plenty of snow.
Located in the north-east of Victoria, this region’s history reads of bushrangers, cattlemen and gold discovery. Its ‘true blue’ charm still lingers, however these days wine tasting, walking, skiing and getting wed are its biggest attractions.
There are three things The Murray region is renowned for: golf, food/wine and nature. Boasting Australia’s longest river, there’s plenty of fertile land and a rich Aboriginal history. There’s an outstanding number of wedding venues too – the only hurdle is trying to choose one.
Only a stone’s throw from Melbourne is VIC’s oldest wine growing region. Sure, if you like nature there’s plenty of worthwhile things to do and see but it’s the opportunity to sample different wineries that brings most couples here. Think of it like speed dating but a lot less awkward and way more delicious.
